Val’s stage persona mirrors her personality in everyday life—she is very comfortable and very much herself onstage. Val expertly captures an audience’s attention and interest through movement, on-the-fly humor, clear and confident speech and a natural ability to connect. She’s also a professional book illustrator so her visual aids are second-to-none.
Owing to Val’s background in standup and improv comedy, she is not easily flummoxed and can change the length and content of a segment impromptu. She thrives on the chance to meaningfully connect with diverse and intelligent audiences.
Education and professional background
Val is an Ivy-educated (Brown ‘07) speaker with a broad range of life experiences. From working in marketing and high-end landscape design, to starting her own food business, to launching a career as an illustrator and humorist, Val’s unconventional path and unique lens on life comes through on stage.
Speaking Philosophy
Nobody should be nodding off during an event or presentation! Any time a group gathers together it’s an enormous opportunity to connect, get inspired and feel energized and refreshed. Val believes the role of an Emcee or presenter is to guarantee an exciting and productive outcome at any event, and that all information can be delivered in an interesting way—you just need the right speaker.
